UDA Convention + Birthday Party + Baby Blessing!

Posted by Roxy at 3:20 PM 0 comments
Wow! What a weekend! After being so busy for awhile, I finally had a little break from school. Last week, we only had 3 days of school due to the UDA Convention up in SLC, UT. It's a convention where everyone in the dental field geeks out about freebies (specially toothbrushes) and all the cool stuff that is related to dentistry. Even though we were only in school for 3 days, it felt like a drag. I think it'z coz everyone was just so tired from the previous weeks! I can't blame them! Anyway, it was so much fun to go to the convention and just play around. First, my friends who didn't get their loupes yet were so hilarious. Both Carlie and Chelsey kept going back and forth between the Orascoptic booth and the Surgitel booth. It was funny since we would check up on them once in awhile to see the progress. While they were shopping for loupes, we walked around and saw a bunch of gals from our class. It was so awesome to see everyone looking so glamorous. It was awesome! We had so much fun and after a whole day at the convention, our feet were just sore to death. My favorite part was when we went to the massage booth and there were these machines that jiggle your whole body. I did use the word "JIGGLE" coz it totally does! And yes, we were there from 8:30-4:00 LOL! But on the way home, we passed by the SLC Temple since Chelsey hasn't seen it before. Like always, it looked gorgeous! :)

Another story was that Curt's uncle John turned the BIG 60 this weekend! It was so fun to see the family from Maryland and Seattle. Too bad Nate and Tiff and little Nora couldn't come! (I was so excited to see little Nora too! Yes, I'm talking to you Tiff if you are reading this haha!) It was fun though. Uncle John is so fond of anything chocolate that everything on the table were basically made with chocolate. It was choco-tastic but after that, I'm all chocolated-out for awhile.

And lastly, little Ivy was blessed this past Sunday. She looked so cute and just so adorable in her dress. Jim was funny to try to put her to sleep before the blessing so she doesn't get too cranky. When Mike and Ivy were called up along with all the Priesthood holders in the family, I couldn't help but tear up while listening to the blessing that Mike was giving her. It was just an awesome experience. It was funny to see the chapel half occupied by our side of the family and Mike's. It was pretty cool! I was like "I love this, we have such a huge family!" It definitely made me miss the gatherings in the Philippines. But anyway, that is the summary of my weekend! Hope you all had a good one! Now it's time for me to pack it up and study for another set of upcoming exams! Good luck to me!!!

Photo Booth Fun!!! :)
My fellow lovely future hygienists! <3

M.I.A. and Valentine's Day

Posted by Roxy at 12:22 PM 2 comments
Fellow family and friends, I apologize for not updating my blog in the past 2-3 weeks. Life has been a chaos as some of my fellow classmates would agree. Where have I been and what have I been up to you may ask? I've only been in school for a month a half and it seems like school is already going fast. In the past few weeks, we have had 5 exams. NOT quizzes, but 5 EXAMS. Insane?? Yes! My physical and mental health are still trying to recover from "Hell Week." LOL! I shall explain why I gave last week its name.
So 2 weeks ago, we had our first Head and Neck Anatomy exam that consisted of 3 chapters (not bad). I actually got a good score on that so I was pretty happy. Then the week after, we had our first Embryology and Histology exam which consisted of again 3 chapter (still not bad) and I got a good grade on that as well. This last week is what I have referred to as "Hell Week" due to these reasons:
1. Monday: 2 exams on 2 of our harder classes: Morphology and Radiology on the same day and right by each other (both consisted of AT LEAST 5 chapters each)
2. We had to complete our Extra-Oral Exam process evaluation by the end of the week in clinic
3. Wednesday: Our Pre-Clinic Theory exam which consisted of almost 15 chapters total! 15!!!!!!!
4. Due to studying so much, all of us looked like the cast of "The Walking Dead" with dark circles under our eyes and totally zoned out in every class
5. Our fluoride paper was due on Thursday.
6. SADHA council held meetings to finalize our budget for our class.
*Note: In our school, we have what we call a SADHA council. It is the Student American Dental Hygiene Association. It's basically a student body council for the whole class. Even though I was not planning on running, my name was on it 3x for 3 different positions (President, VP, and Secretary). I don't know if it's because people like me or they're trolling and want me to be busy so I can fail hahahahaha! But anyway, I got elected as the Vice-President. I'm pretty happy about our council and now we're trying to get everybody involved and put them to work. :)

So what do you guys think? Pretty busy, eh?! This coming week we still have 2 exams: Preventive Dentistry and Spanish. Also, several of us have ordered our loupes. Loupes are very essential in the dental field. It helps us get the job done by helping us with our posture and back and we look very silly wearing them. It's still pretty cool though! And I got my business cards in the mail. I mean, it's not a necessity for school but it helps put our names out there in the market to get some patients on our chair. Come see me when I start seeing patients next semester. We'll have a blast!!!! :)

Our dining table has become my study corner!

Chelsey D. (our Historian) posted this!!!! This is what she felt after a SADHA Budget meeting LOL

I think this is pretty close to the kind of loupes that I got. I will have to post a pic when I get them. :)

My business cards have arrived!!!! Isn't it so cute??!!!

I also wanted to thank my sweet sweet husband for putting up with me through this whole week. It's been crazy and I even forgot about Valentine's Day. I came home and he was making dinner for us since he knew I was exhausted and that I didn't want to go out. He had flowers on the table and a chocolate bar.
He made awesome steak, garlic mashed potatoes, and steamed veggies for dinner! yummy!!! So grateful for him! <3

Well, another week is coming so I better put my game face on!!! Have a great week everyone! :)

Survived Week 3

Posted by Roxy at 7:14 PM 0 comments
Another week has gone by.. Wahoo! This week has been a rough one for a lot of people in my class. After having a long weekend to relax, it totally bit us hard on the butt when we got back to school. Not only were we stressed out about passing Clinical PE's, we had to study for 3 quizzes for 3 classes that we had today. Phew! Also, Utah seriously froze on Thursday and there were tons of accidents that happened on the freeway. My lovely clinic partner was one of the unlucky ones and got in an accident on her way to school. Poor gal, but she is doing alright. We were all glad she wasn't hurt at all, thank goodness. Anyway, other than the fact that we were all stressed out, we had some exciting things that happened at school this week. First of all, we finally felt like real dental hygiene students since we finally got our own set of instruments. It was cool. Opening the bags felt like Christmas morning because they were all shiny, sharp, and new. We get to start using them next week I think. Also, for our Preventive Dentistry class, we got to relax and an Oral-B guest speaker came and talked to our class. Some of us knew that we were getting toothbrushes since
1. It's Oral B
2. They are the leading brand in toothbrushes and anything related to dentistry.. and
3. He came to our class with tons of boxes. :)

So, this awesome dude starting talking to us about the science of how brushing your teeth is very essential (which we already knew) and that the kind of toothbrush can definitely help with an individual's oral health. Anyway, he was explaining to us the importance of toothbrushes, mouthwashes, and toothpaste and the science behind all of it and then.... he showed us a presentation about their newest and latest power toothbrush: Precision 5000. All of us in the class were going "ooohhh" and "aaaahhh" just because this toothbrush was so cool. After almost 2 hours of lecture from Mr. Lenny (Oral B dude), he told us the good news: EACH OF US GETS ONE FOR FREE!!!!!! It was like Christmas broke out in our classroom coz it was awesome. The exciting part about it is that we thought we were only getting the cheap toothbrushes but NO, we got a $170 Hygiene Kit for free!! Man, it totally made our day and made us really think that it was so nice to be in hygiene school LOL! And yes, even though it's going to be a rough experience, we know for sure that in the end, we will feel good about ourselves and that our hard-work will definitely pay off in the end! :)

Still breathing and surviving + a baby in the family!

So far, I have made it through my first 2 weeks of hygiene school and honestly, it was rough. Our professors are great! Some are intimidating and some will make you laugh your head off. I'm not going to lie that it has been a stressful 2 weeks. And yes, I have already shed some tears from the stress and panic of not being able to get any homework or reading done. It's been one heck of a ride so far. A lot of memorization, lots of homework, and LOTS of studying. Holy caboodle!!! I was crying to Curt one night and asked him why I even joined this program and that I don't think I could ever do it. Right now, we are taking 9 classes summing up to 18-19 credits. Aaaahhhh!!!! One thing that stuck in my head was that one of professors told us that we already got through the hardest part.. Getting accepted in the program! I mean, I get what he was saying just because he knew that we were already stressing out about our classes, but we are the lucky ones of getting accepted and getting in. If they didn't see us having the potential of getting through this extensive and accelerated program, we would not be in our chairs in class right now. Those words of wisdom definitely made me feel a lot better about myself. I'm also glad that I met and made a few friends already. Our class is pretty awesome. Anyway, it's our 4-day weekend coz of the holiday. Thank goodness!!! It's nice having a break.. we totally needed it.
These are the classes that I am taking this semester:
  • Morphology
  • Radiology & Radiology Lab
  • Head and Neck Anatomy
  • Pre-Clinic Theory & Pre-Clinic Lab
  • Embryology and Histology
  • Preventive Dentistry
  • Spanish

Here is my lovely schedule!!!

Also, one lovely thing happened last week!!! My sis-in-law Holly had her baby!!! She is so adorable!!! Curt and I were so happy when we finally got the message at around 2:30 am that she was born. Welcome to world Ivy Lynn Simmonds. We love you!!!

Have a great holiday weekend everyone!!! Be safe!!! xoxoxo

Ashamed as it is...

Wow! I can't believe it's been over a year since my last post. Holy cow!! I am so bad at this blogging thing when I get busy as a bee. This is the 2nd time I've done this. First, I tried making a blog right when Curt and I first got married, 2nd time was last year.. I was pretty good about it and then got a little busy and discouraged since I feel like no one really cares about our lives.. except for family and friends that we see very often haha!!! Oh well, so just an update of where we are right now since my last post.. Or at least the things that has happened in the year 2012.

1. We have moved twice in 1 year! Yes, we are apartment hoppers... and NO, we don't like moving! We actually hate it. We are now currently living in Provo, UT.
2. I got accepted into Utah College of Dental Hygiene. In 1 1/2 years, I will be an RDH! Woohoo! (Well, I'm hoping I do well and pass lol!)
 3. Curt is officially a Cougar. He got into BYU-Provo and will be going into Nursing (More on the story later.. it's actually pretty cool.)

4. Mama and Papa are here in the U.S.A. Who knew that my grandparents from the Philippines would live to see the day and actually travel to the U.S. It's pretty awesome.

5. Oohh.. Curt and I will be having a niece soon. We are very excited to have a niece in the Buckmiller family. We're just waiting for her to come... Maybe next week?
6. I guess I became a model and my face is on Uptown Cheapskate's Winter Edition on Facebook. Pretty cool!

7. I finally got a Kitchenaid Mixer for Christmas.. and our very own washer and dryer! (Obviously, I wasn't too excited when I opened the package LOL!)
8. We got to see Switchfoot, Demi Lovato, and Nightwish in concert. It was so awesome. :)
9. I don't get migraines that much anymore.. Thank goodness!
10. Went to my very first Gluten-free expo. I was so overwhelmed with the gluten-free products. I was totally in heaven. I even got this shirt coz I thought it was awesome.
11. Let my girly-girl side let loose.. Bad part of it is now I am slightly obsessed with make-up. I totally bloomed way later than expected.
12. Nope, I'm not pregnant yet!

So these are some highlights of our 2012. Since I tried to blog daily the last few times I attempted to blog, I am going to stick to my New Year's resolution and blog weekly. I want to share with everyone my weekly happenings of this year.. and our journey of 2013. Happy week everyone!

New Season... New Look!! :)

Posted by Roxy at 9:47 PM 5 comments
Guess who's a red-head! ME!!!!! Well it's not really red.. more like a "sour-cherry" red. Fall is here and that means a whole new season,.. so I decided to change my hair to a whole new look last weekend. I was a little hesitant at first but it was the right time since my awesome friend Miss Molly told me about the deal at Lunatic Fringe. Color was only $50 instead of $120. Was it a good deal... HECK YEAH IT WAS! I got excited and ask Curt if I could do it. And of course, the loving and supporting husband that he is, He said YES! I'm so excited about my hair and I've received a lot of compliments already. It's a big change for my hair but I love it so much!!! And as a matter of fact, this is my first time ever where my hair actually turned red.. we had to bleach my hair. I was mortified when I heard the word "bleach" come out of Molly's mouth but I just said "Let's go for it!!!" Anyway, here they are!! More pics coming soon since I did a photo shoot yesterday with my awesome sister-in-laws and cousin. Yay!! :)
Yes!! It's not dark chocolate anymore.. it's Auburn!

Here's the front view of it.. I just recently took a shower  so it looks dark.

Tons of layers.. you can't see it much on the pic tho.. :(

Me messing around with the camera while Curt is seriously in tuned with his game on the PS3. Haha!
